Please be angry

We often do our best to avoid anger or we allow ourselves to be controlled by it but anger is one of the most powerful emotions known to us. Anger is a gift, if only we learn to use it. Anger generates so much energy within a soul that I am unsure if there is any other emotion except intense love that does the same. The energy generated by anger, I compare with the energy a rocket uses to overcome earth’s gravitational pull and breaksthrough into space.

I have the privilege of using anger. My whole work and many of my writings including the recent Cleaning the African Narrative is borne of deep and righteous indignation. Through anger, rather than write articles, I prophesy. I strive to be not just a speaker that stirs people’s emotions but an oracle that communicates spirit. Through anger I am not doing business, I am cleaning the idea of business. I use anger. Anger borne of Love.

Yes it is Valentine’s day and Love is not Love if it is never moved to anger. Jesus, Love incarnate did not unlove Peter when He said, “Get thee behind me Satan” nor did He unlove when he overturned the tables of the robbers in the temple masquerading as bankers. Love birthed His anger.

One day Sarah got very upset with Abraham for something she helped orchestrate. Ishmael was mocking and in anger Sarah blurted out,

Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac.

Ha! That was heavy, decisive and terminal with no possibility of appeal. Perhaps unknown to Sarah, she broke through the fussing barrier into revelation. As TD Jakes once said, “Sarah was fussing but she was fussing revelation.” I love it. Sarah was so upset that she broke through mere cussing and cursing where most people tabernacle when angry, into prophecy. She became an oracle.

With her extreme displeasure and disenchantment she uttered words of prophecy that would not only shape world history but also dictate heaven’s agenda, in heaven and on earth. Ha! Now, that, is a woman. That is how to be woman, or man. Just sayin. She used anger. Anger did not use her. She capitalized on anger’s ability to carry us into dimensions we belong anyway, where we are co-creators with God and not mere onlookers in the unfolding drama of humanity and creation.

May you not waste your anger as many are prone to do in cussing and cursing, thereby, in addition to unnecessarily unleashing malevolent spirits, releasing toxic chemicals within your own body. May you through your anger be like Sarah. May you see anger as an opportunity to breakthrough into new dimensions where you are dictating heaven’s policy in heaven and on earth. Selah! Instead of cursing your spouse, children or siblings, wax poetic, write or sing a song, do something a little crazier than cursing. Anger inspires like that.

May we be oracles of God and not the devil’s mouthpieces when we are upset. Instead of cussing or cursing may I use the opportunity and energy of anger to blurt out divine mysteries that overstep generations. May I through anger borne of Love join with God in shaping history and setting kingdom agenda beyond my time.

So, please be angry. Be angry at injustice. Be angry at complacency. Be angry at the unChristliness of Christians. Be angry at the gross darkness in the world when there are many of us claiming to be light of the world. Be angry at the fact that salt has lost its saltiness. Be angry at abuse. Be angry at oppression. Be angry at fear. Be angry at lack of compassion not only in the world but also within your own family – after all that is your world. Then, respond like Sarah.
