Please spiritualize it

There is an awakening of the human consciousness towards the spiritual and I see it as a positive development. An evidence is the increasing popularity of yoga, meditation and new age ideas in public, in schools, in places of work, even in churches! At the start of every class at an undergraduate business class at McGill University where I often speak, there is about 10 minutes of meditation. Even the Occupy movement in North America incorporates yoga and meditation.

There is an increasing awareness that our problems are deeper than can be solved at the flesh and blood level of human existence. One truth driving this and which the god of this world exploits, is that since human beings are meant to be spirits, everything human is spiritual. This increasing awareness of the spiritual will culminate in the next world ruler openly addressing global challenges spiritually. But before then, true living spirits need to take their place.

Christ whom I follow, saw and solved every problem spiritually, including sicknesses we have explanations for, yet we shy away from “over spiritualizing.” How else should a spirit deal with any matter if not spiritually? What is the advantage of being a living spirit if I vacate the spirit because it makes me seem weird? Who cares? Jesus was beyond weird but He provided for and healed the people, using purely spiritual means, not because He was showing off but because He is a spirit and spirits “spiritualize”. David’s body would have been fed to the dogs had he not tapped into a higher realm to defeat a physically more capable opponent.

We are still trying to be the best flesh and blood beings we can be when flesh and blood is becoming passé. We feel obligated to address today’s challenges using failed intellectual strategies. Meanwhile, the world is openly but blindly tapping into the spiritual before our very eyes, because we the light of the world and the salt of the earth, have vacated the spiritual space so as not be persecuted. What is persecution when you have authority over the spiritual climate of your neighborhood, city, country or region? Or don’t we?

When will the sons of God reveal themselves? When will we realize that a form of godliness without the power thereof, fails to address the challenges of our day? When will we stop having church and start being church? When will living spirits start to thrive in the spirit realm and stop striving in the flesh? When will we begin to act like we have joint seating with the lamb who was slain, who dethroned the rulers of the darkness of this world that are causing havoc around the world?

If this speaks to you, welcome to the club. I am not blogging, I am only speaking to myself in public as I prepare to throw caution to the wind.

  1. I say AMEN to this whole post, Tolu! This resonates deep within me. The Lord has been pressing much the same thing on my heart, but you have verbalized it in a way I could not. Thank you. I see illnesses that we label and treat with medicines and surgeries, and I wonder why we aren’t addressing and driving out the evil that causes the illnesses? I think the fear of being “weird” is a big reason. We, as Christians, have got to stop trying to blend in and be potitically correct!!
I love your last line…I join you, Tolu! Let’s throw caution to the wind and live wholeheartedly for Jesus!! Let’s do what He told us to do so that everywhere we go the power of Jesus will be present. I was reading about Paul in Ephesus (from Acts 19) this morning…It says that God did extraordinary miracles through Paul. Even hankerchiefs and aprons he had touched had the power to heal (vs. 12). I want to be that full of the Spirit of God and that willing to serve the Lord!! We are supposed to be the body of Christ, the vessel in which the SPIRIT of God dwells. If we deny the power of the Spirit, we are in a way denying God. This is serious stuff.
Sorry for such a long comment, but I am really feeling stirred up about this. Thanks again for talking to yourself out loud where we can all hear! It is a blessing to me.
God bless you, friend, as you step out in faith and courage to do the Lord’s will! Pray that I, too, will do this.

    • Thanks Natalie. Thank you for your comment, which adds to the post.

Thank you. The more of us throwing caution to the wind in pursuit of Christ, the better and the more believers see it is a good thing. I believe we are entering into the days of His power, days requiring nothing less than total abandonment to the Spirit.

What has political or religious correctness got to do with matters of life and death?

I never saw that before – “If we deny the power of the Spirit, we are in a way denying God.” Truly serious stuff.

      Thank you.

  3.  In Colossians 3:11 Paul said, “Christ is all and in all.” Christ is everything. That is a monumental truth that affirms the utter sufficiency of Jesus Christ for every spiritual issue in the life of every believer. He is all that is necessary for salvation and spiritual life.

    • I like that. He is sufficient for every spiritual issue and therefore every issue in the life of every believer. I would also say in the life of every unbeliever and every organization or society. Christ is indeed all and in all. We can find in Christ, the solution to every predicament, individual, mational or global. Thank you Ike, for adding to the post.

  4. I once heard a preacher say we are spiritual beings with outer bodies. I personally believe that the spiritual dictates what happens in the physical and I often get frustrated when people come up with that phrase “don’t over-spiritualize it”. Once we get into that mind frame, we automatically shortchange ourselves to dealing with symptoms rather than the root cause. This is a very timely post bro. Thank you for sharing

    • Once we get into that mind frame, we automatically shortchange ourselves to dealing with symptoms rather than the root cause.” I love the way you framed that. We will never take our rightful place on earth until we learn to spiritualize.

Human beings who are not living spirits can and should deal with symptoms because they cannot see beyond what they see but not spirit beings whose whole existence ought to be in the spirit.Indeed, we are spirits with outer bodies. Thanks bro.
