Two birthdays

July is an important month because I got married in July. I am blessed to be married for 8 years now to a lovely, beautiful woman who completes me and is truly my helper in every sense of the word. My life would be too chaotic without her. Ibironke is a blessing.

July is also special because I was born in July. As I remember my natural birth, I cannot but think of my spiritual rebirth. I have lived for several years, as a man born to Femi and Modupe Ilesanmi, who grew up in Ilorin, Nigeria, with six siblings (Bunmi, Lola, Gbenga, Tosin, Tobi and Busayo), educated in Nigeria (Sokoto, Ilorin, Ile-Ife), worked in Nigeria (Lagos, Port Harcourt), got married to Ibironke, emigrated to Canada, attended business school in Canada, began to express my entrepreneurial nature in Canada and lately was blessed with beautiful Oluwatofunmi. This is my human existence.

On this day, I am thinking seriously about the fact that I am not just human, born 24/7 but spirit, reborn, according to scriptures, on a certain day, not according to bloods nor from physical impulse but of God. My spiritual birth is no less real than my natural birth but there is a native tendency to live solely as a human being belonging to a human genealogy rather than a spirit being, who is God’s own offspring, possessing God’s nature.

I think living as a reborn spirit rather than just a natural human being adds color and beauty to existence. Aside from the fact that a reborn spirit has eternal life right now, a reborn spirit is not subject to the same limitations as a natural human being. A reborn spirit being has tendencies that transcend those of ordinary human existence. A reborn spirit being has a love nature because that is the nature of the Father from whom it originated. A reborn spirit being is naturally peaceful despite external turbulence, is patient, gentle, benevolent, full of faith, humble and temperate. Like Jesus Christ, a reborn spirit being is not dominated by circumstances and storms of life but can actually have its way despite the winds and the waves.

Life is just more fulfilling if I live as a reborn spirit being. The world not only enables me to easily live as a human being but actually attempts to keep me from living as a spirit being. But I know that abundant life is possible only if I live as a reborn spirit. This does not mean my humanity is suppressed but actually elevated. It is my natural birthday today and my desire is to live from henceforth as a reborn spirit.

  1. TOLU,..I BELIEVE ALSO THAT YOUR WIFE RONI,IS REALLY A BLESSING…I BELIEVE THAT SHE HAS THE MAIN ROLE IN YOUR INSPIRATIONS…AND…I THINK FOR A SPIRIT REBIRTH WE NEED TO SACRIFY THE COCOON…THE BARRIER BETWEEN THE SPIRIT AND FLYING…THE SPIRIT MUST BE UNCOVERED…THIS IS SCARIFYING THE EGO…IT'S A DEVOTION…IT'S A TRANSLATION FROM ME TO US…"I" DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE…YOU ARE IN A UNION…YOU CAN FLY…YOU CAN FEEL…YOU ARE CONNECTED…YOU ARE A REBORN SPIRIT…

  2. Thank you. Absolutely, my wife has a key role. She is in a sense, the making of me. The rebirth I am referring to here is the one spoken about in scriptures, which requires the involvement of God Himself. Because God Himself does the birthing/transformation of the person, there is a protocol, there is a way to it, just like every King, every ruler has a protocol by which they can be reached and do not leave it to the public to decide how to reach them. The King of the universe has a protocol too. Jesus Christ calls it being born a second time, not from a woman's womb but spiritually, by God Himself. He was bold enough to say no one comes to the Father except through Him and I am bold enough to believe Him. That is the protocol I followed. When this rebirth happens, the spirit comes alive, is uncovered like you said, and can connect with the Father. Without the rebirth, the person lives and dies in the cocoon – a tragedy indeed.
